Sustainability
At Matter, sustainability isn’t a parallel initiative. It’s why Matter exists.
It’s the foundation of how we design, build and operate.
We exist to solve a real, measurable problem: to leave water and the world better than we found it, by intercepting microfibre pollution at the source. That mission demands more than intent, it requires engineered solutions that deliver demonstrable impact at scale.
Designing products for real-world impact..
We design products that don’t just minimise harm, they actively remove it.
Every solution is developed with performance and environmental impact in mind, ensuring it can withstand real-world use while delivering measurable results.
To achieve this, we:
- Select materials that are both highly durable and as environmentally responsible as possible
- Design for longevity, repairability and circularity wherever possible
- Continuously test and refine performance to maximise environmental benefit.
- Design for longevity, repairability, and circularity wherever possible
This ensures our products don’t compromise between sustainability and effectiveness. They deliver both.

Responsible sourcing and production.
Impact is built into our supply chain.
We aim to source materials and components that meet rigorous environmental standards, balancing sustainability with the demands of high-performance engineering.
At the same time, we actively:
- Seek out suppliers aligned to our environmental values
- Increase transparency and traceability in sourcing decisions
Because the impact of a product is defined long before it reaches the customer.
Powering our operations sustainably.
How we operate matters just as much as what we build.
We use renewable, traceable energy across our operations and continuously work to reduce our carbon footprint. We partner with Ecologi to fund global carbon avoidance projects and tree planting.
At Matter HQ, we are supplied with 100% green energy that is traceable and renewable.

Everyday actions, collective responsibility.
Sustainability at Matter extends beyond strategy – it’s reflected in how we work every day.
From how we travel, to how we use energy in our workspace, to the decisions we make as individuals, we embed accountability across the entire organisation. This includes:
- Minimising waste in our day-to-day operations
- Encouraging conscious decision-making at every level of the business
- Tracking our environmental and social impact across the business, integrating sustainability metrics into our reporting and decision-making
Because meaningful change is built on consistent, collective action.
Our commitment is long-term.
We’re proud to be a certified B Corporation. This reflects our commitment to creating measurable impact across the core B Corp principles of People, Planet and Profit on top of our vision for a world free from microfibre.
But for us, this is not an endpoint. It’s part of an ongoing journey to build a better business, one that prioritises impact alongside performance.
As Astrid Høst McLaughlin, Sustainability Officer, puts it:
“As our business grows, so does our responsibility. Inspired by the Cradle to Cradle principle of “more good, not less bad”, we are committed to making thoughtful, sustainable decisions that create positive impact for our people, communities, and planet”.
At Matter, we are proving that engineering-led innovation, combined with responsible operations and everyday action, can deliver meaningful, measurable change.
